Our Story

We started as neighbors. We grew into family.

Bloom House Barks started as a housing cooperative — a group of people seeking creative economic solutions to today’s challenges. We grew into a home full of animal lovers, each housemate with their own fur baby.

Alongside caring for our own pets, together and separately, we realized we each had extensive experience with dog walking and pet sitting. With this shared interest, we endeavored to start a cooperative that held our chosen family name and formed Bloom House Barks.

As a cooperative, we are learning what it means to be worker owners. This means we each take care to hold our shared duties, and those we serve, with intention and respect. We would expect nothing less for our own.

Drop-In Visit

20-Minute Check-In

A focused visit covering everything your pet needs. Every drop-in includes:

  • Feeding and fresh water
  • Quick potty break or outdoor time
  • Cat litter box refresh
  • Photo update sent to you
  • Medication as instructed

Add-ons that may affect your rate: multiple pets, extra litter boxes, medication administration, and holiday visits. We will always discuss any add-ons before confirming your booking.

We stay in your home so your pet sleeps in their own space. Extended-stay rate applies to 7 nights or more.

Sliding-Scale Pricing

How our pricing works — and why

We use the Green Bottle Method, developed by Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary. It is a sliding scale built on trust, not income verification. You honestly assess your own financial experience and choose the tier that reflects it.

Our tiers are not based on location — they are based on financial access. Tier 1 is our most accessible rate. When neighbors who can pay Tier 2 or Tier 3 do so, they help sustain our cooperative and make Tier 1 possible for those who need it. Choosing the tier that honestly fits you is an act of community.

Read each description below. Select the one that most honestly reflects your current financial experience to see your pricing.

Tier 1 — Most Accessible

Stretched & stressed

  • I frequently stress about meeting basic needs and do not always achieve them
  • I have debt that sometimes prevents meeting my basic needs
  • I rent lower-end properties or have unstable housing
  • I am unemployed, underemployed, or qualify for government assistance
  • I have no access to savings and little or no expendable income
  • I cannot afford a vacation without financial hardship
Tier 2 — Mid Rate

Managing, with some stretch

  • I may stress about meeting basic needs but still regularly achieve them
  • I own or lease a car and am employed with access to health care
  • I might have some savings and some expendable income
  • I buy some new items and thrift others
  • I can take a vacation annually or every few years without significant burden
Tier 3 — Full Rate

Comfortable & secure

  • I comfortably meet all my basic needs — food, housing, health care, and transportation
  • I own my home or rent a higher-end property and own or lease a car
  • I am employed or do not need to work to meet my needs
  • I have regular access to health care and financial savings
  • I have expendable income and can afford an annual vacation

Weather Policy

We walk in all seasons — safely.

Your pet’s safety is always the first consideration. Walk lengths vary by season and conditions, and we communicate proactively whenever weather may affect your service.

Winter (general)

20- and 40-minute walks

During winter months we offer 20- and 40-minute walks, adjusted for temperature and conditions to keep your pet and our walkers safe.

Below 32°F

20 minutes or less

When temperatures drop below freezing, walks are capped at 20 minutes or less. Paw safety and body warmth are our first priority.

Spring, Summer & Fall

All walk lengths available

20-, 30-, 40-, and 60-minute walks are offered spring through fall. The 60-minute walk is seasonal and subject to walker availability.

85–90°F and above

Shortened to 20 minutes or less

At high temperatures we shorten walks to 20 minutes or less to prevent overheating. This is evaluated case by case as conditions develop.

Extreme weather events

We communicate first

During blizzard conditions, torrential downpours, or major heat waves, we will reach out before your visit. Walks may be shortened or cancelled for safety.

You will always hear from us before conditions affect your service — never after the fact. We plan ahead and work with you on a solution.

Our promise: We never leave you wondering. If extreme weather is forecast, we reach out proactively and work with you on a plan — whether that means a shorter walk, a rescheduled visit, or another arrangement that keeps your pet comfortable and safe.
